Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he is still frustrated with his qualifying performances this season, despite coming from fifth on the grid to claim a podium in Singapore.
The seven-time world champion showed immense race pace throughout the Singapore Grand Prix and particularly during the final stint on medium compound tyres, but track position made it impossible for him to challenge for the win.
Hamilton found himself a couple of tenths down on team-mate George Russell throughout all three practice sessions and qualifying, setting him on the back foot for the race on Sunday.
Mercedes’ star driver eventually made his way onto the podium with Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris after Russell crashed out at turn ten on the final lap of the race, but Hamilton knew that a win was on the table in Singapore.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 about his qualifying issues, Hamilton said: “It’s clearly not just the car. George was on the front row. It’s me, just my driving style, changes that perhaps I’m making.
“It’s a lot of different things, so I need to look into that. I will naturally keep my head down, keep pushing and will not be satisfied until I get back there.”
The legendary Brit was full of praise for his team-mate though, despite the late crash. He said: “It’s all in hindsight but I think the thing I was most disappointing with…I mean George was so close to pole yesterday. I should have been on pole yesterday.

“But then we had a good race. The race was kind of textbook. The team did a good job with strategy. I’m in my element in the race. It’s just qualifying needs to get better. George was great all weekend.
“As a team, we risked it at the end and took the chance. I love that the team is doing that. It was a big gap to close up. It was definitely hard to overtake those guys at the end of the race. Probably needed another 5-10 laps and I think we would have got them.”
With his fifth podium of the season confirmed in Singapore, Hamilton moves ten points clear of career-long Fernando Alonso as the pair continue to scrap over third place in the Drivers’ Championship.
