Lewis Hamilton has ended all the Formula One speculation around him by signing a new two-year contract with Mercedes that will keep him with the Brackley-based team until the end of the 2025 season. The seven-time F1 world champion will now remain an F1 driver until at least the age of 40.

Hamilton had been heavily linked with a move to Mercedes’ rivals Ferrari ahead of the 2024 campaign with both teams closely matched in terms of performance relative to reigning Constructors’ Championship winners Red Bull.

The seven-time champion was denied a record-breaking eighth title on the final lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2021 and is still looking to secure that elusive championship before his career in F1 comes to an end.

With Hamilton’s future wrapped up, Mercedes also announced that team-mate George Russell has signed a new contract with the team. The agreement confirms his presence with the Silver Arrows until the end of the 2025 campaign.

“We have never been hungrier to win. We have learnt from every success but also every setback. We continue to chase our dreams, we continue to fight no matter the challenge and we will win again.

“I’m grateful to the team who have supported me both on and off the track. Our story isn’t finished, we are determined to achieve more together and we won’t stop until we do.”

And discussing his new Mercedes deal, Russell explained: “I have grown up with this team ever since joining as part of the Junior programme back in 2017. It’s my home and it feels fantastic to extend our special relationship through 2025.

“After stepping up to the Mercedes race seat last year, I wanted to reward the trust and belief that Toto and the rest of the team placed in me. Taking my first pole position and race win last year was an unforgettable feeling.”

The 25-year-old Briton went on to say: “We have made some significant steps over the last 18 months and are only getting stronger as a team. I’m excited to help continue to build on that momentum as we progress into 2024 and 2025 as we continue to focus on returning to the very front of the pack.”
